Message from the President of the Hindu Society of Manitoba

Dear Devotees, Community Members and Visitors,

The Hindu Society of Manitoba (HSM) is a not-for-profit organization engaged in promoting the Hindu religion and culture. Established in 1970, our organization runs and operates two Temples and Cultural Hall facilities located at 854 Ellice Ave and 999 St. Annes Road in Winnipeg Manitoba. These facilities are managed by two Management Committees who oversee the day-to-day operations and the affairs of the society are managed by the Board of Governors, all of which are made up of volunteers.

Our centers serve as vibrant hubs of activity, fostering community engagement and spiritual growth.

In addition to our facilities, The Hindu Society of Manitoba offersa number of activities for our members and the community to participate in:

  • Vidhya Bhavan language school and arts classes: providing a platform for learning and preserving our cultural activity.

  • Math Classes: Equipping our youth with the essential mathematical skills, these classes nurture academic excellence and critical thinking and are ran by volunteer university math professors and students.

  • Senior Wellness & Yoga Program: Every Thursday, we prioritize the well-being of our seniors through a dedicated wellness program, promoting physical health and social connectivity.

  • Badminton and Pickleball: Sports enthusiasts of all ages can participate in badminton and pickle ball sessions throughout the week.

  • Library: Our library serves as a treasure trove of knowledge; housing a diverse collection of books, periodicals, and resources covering various aspects of Hinduism, literature, history, and more.

We are completing a major renovation on the temple located at 854 Ellice Avenue on April 17th, 2024 which is to be reopened on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami. The renovation has been a labour of love, with careful attention paid to preserving the sacredness and the beauty of our temple while modernizing the facility to serve our community.

We have witnessed a significant increase in participation and engagement in our temple and cultural activities. Your enthusiasm and dedication have been inspiring, and it is a testament to the vibrant spirit of our community.

At HSM, we are committed to fostering inclusiveness and embracing the diversity that enriches our society. Together we can continue to promote a culture of inclusivity and ensure that everyone feels welcome and respected within our society. Our organization remains united in our shared goals and values.

We continue to encourage all the youth and young members to become involved and join us in our community’s activities and initiatives. You are the future of our organization and your involvement and engagement are critical to the success of the organization.

Thank you to all of the members for your ongoing participation and engagement in the Hindu Society of Manitoba. With your support, we have achieved remarkable milestones, and I am confident that in the year ahead, we will continue to build on our successes.

Best regards,

Kirit Thakrar

President, Hindu Society of Manitoba
